Human life is frought with uncertainities. What is there now, may not be there tomorrow. There are pages in history on which we can see the example of such uncertain events. One of the examples is Bhangarh.
In this scientific day and age, we can give rationale for every event. However, there are certain events for which even science cannot provide an explanation. And such events make us believe in the existence of the paranormal.
Everyone has heard of this cursed fort. The picture that comes to our mind when we hear of this name is of fear
Though there are multiple haunted places in India, however, the name that comes at the top is Bhangarh Fort.
It is believed that ghosts live in this fort after sunset. That is the reason why entry is strictly prohibited after sunset.
Bhangarh fort was a very prosperous place once upon a time. There was happiness everywhere. However, the scene soon changed to gloom.
We are still experiencing the haunting as an implication of what happened in Bhangarh which makes it India's Most Haunted #1
There are so many legends being told about Bhangarh that it is being called as "Bhangarh of Ghosts" now. All these legends have some iota of truth.
Bhangarh fort is situated in distrit Alwar of Rajasthan. It was developed in the 16th Century by King Madho Singh who was younger brother of King Sawai Maansingh.
This fort has temples of Shiva, Hanuman etc. This fort was made of strong stones which still exists as is even today.
As much exemplary the architecture is, it's past is even more gloomy. It is said that ghosts and sprits live in this fort. With the fall of night, one can hear screams and cries of women. A lot of scientists have not been able to give a cause for this phenomena.
Numerous legends are being told about this fort, however there are two which are very prominent.
It is believed that the princess of Bhangarh Ratnavati was extremely beautiful. She was getting proposals from all over. One day the princess goes to the local market with her friends. She visits a perfume shop where a Tantrik named Singhiya sees her. He gets bowled over by her beauty and thinks of getting her. In this attempt, he bewitches one of the perfurme bottles. Princess realizes it and throws that bottle on a rock. The bottle breaks on the rock. It is said that the rock followed the tantrik and kills him.
At the time of his death, the tantrik sets a curse upon Bhangarh that soon everyone will die and that there spirits will forver get trapped in the fort.
Incidently, a war ensues soon after between Bhangarh and Ajab Garh in which all the people in the fort get killed including Ratnavati leaving their spirits screaming for release.
With the fall of the night, cries and screams of women can be heard coming from the fort. There is a small door at the back of the fort where is is total darkness. A lot many times, a special type of odour has been experienced. Sometimes cries can be heard piercing the total silence from this fort.
The second story talks about one saint who cursed Bhangarh. It is told that before the fort was built its King sought permission from a nearby living saint Baba Balnath. The saint agreed to it on one condition that none of the structures should cast a shadow upon my home to which the king agreed. However, the king's grandson Ajab Singh did not pay heed and raised height of few of the structures. The saint got angry and cursed the fort and its inhabitants following which all of them died.
We do not know whether these legends hold any truth or not, however what happens in Bhangarh is truly strange.
Some boys went into this fort after nightfall and it is said that one of the boys fell in a well inside the fort and broke his leg. His friends took him to a nearby hospital, however on their way they met an accident in which all of them died. There are lot of such incidents where people have tried to spend night in Bhangarh and they have met with fatalities.
It is also told that whosoever tries to build house near this fort, the ceiling collapses for some strange reasons.
The locals believe that only Ratnavati can get rid of the curse on this fort and that she has taken birth somewhere and soon will release the curse.
Presently, the fort is under Archaeological Survey of India and a team is always present near the fort. ASI has strictly commanded that no one to be found lurking near or inside the fort after nightfall.
